Cisco 3750 will not accept SSH password!

Ok I set my password in a Cisco 3750v2 switch stack and it works for the console and telnet access, but for some reason in SSH it always says Access denied.
The only difference is with telnet it simply asks for the password. With SSH it asks login as: Now I am typing admin because that's what works for Cisco Network Assistant and also the web gui for the switch stack.
I'd rather disable telnet and require SSH for security.
After awhile Putty will exclaim 'Server sent disconnect message type 2 (protocol error): 'Protocol error: expected packet type 50, got -1'.
Do you think this is a Putty configuration issue, or a switch configuration issue?
Here's some exceprt from config:
I might be forgetting something so simple.
Thanks!

Nevermind
Duh didn't generate the rsa keys.
crypto key generate rsa general-keys modulus 768
Then enable ssh:
ip ssh version 2
add a local user :
username cisco privilege 15 password password
configure vty lines:
line vty 0 15
login local
transport input ssh
Fixed.

to cypherstream
do this:
This will make sure SSH is enabled, the new aaa model is used for the username/priviledge/secret line to function, telnet is not permitted, etc.
Make sure your key modulus is at least 1024 so all clients will perform a key exchange with it.

Thanks, that helps too.

np, happy command-line-interfacing.

Changed the RSA key to 1024. 768? What was I thinking?

  • SSH Public Key Authentication on Cisco IOS. Let’s generate a 2048 bit RSA key pair: R1(config)#crypto key generate rsa modulus 2048 The name for the keys will.
  • Jul 22, 2015  Cisco IOS now has support for using SSH with RSA keys. There are many resources showing how to configure SSH with RSA keys on the Internet and I have included several in the references section to give you more information. In this blog I am going to show how to configure a switch and create the public/private key pair using Puttygen for Windows.
